FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The 6th annual ArtWalkRavenswood Tour of Arts & Industry
Ravenswood based artists celebrate Chicago Artists Month with open studios, workshops, and demonstrations from Belmont to Balmoral.
CHICAGO, October 4 - 7, 2007 – ArtWalkRavenswood brings you its 6th annual Tour of Arts & Industry this October 6th and 7th from 11am – 6pm. Visit 54 locations and over 200 prominent, mid-career and emerging professional artists as they host their open studios during a weekend-long neighborhood arts and industry tour. Conveniently located along Brown line train stations and adjacent bus routes, for the fitness and eco-conscious among you – all locations are within a 15 minute radius by bicycle. Not from these parts? The Metra station at Ravenswood is minutes from major venues and all parking is free.
Highlights this year include: The Harvest T-Shirt Festival brought to you by Uptown Multi-Cultural Center, a film-screening with Ravenswood resident artist and internationally known sculptor Ruth Duckworth at the Peter Jones Gallery Saturday night, an architectural tour of the Ravenswood Billboard Factory event space, Dick Bjorklund brings Ravenswood history to life at the Sulzer Library on Saturday afternoon, the Jane Addams Resource Corporation presents their "Art to Part" after school youth program in the JARC training center – and much, much more!
The opening reception for ArtWalkRavenswood will be held on Thursday, October 4th from 7:30 - 11pm at the Peter Jones Gallery, 1806 W. Cuyler, on the 2nd Floor. Also that evening, ArtWalkRavenswood will present three "Ravenswood Arts Advocate Awards" honoring residents, artists, and business owners who support the arts community of Ravenswood. Each award is itself a piece of art; our awards creator for 2007 is local ceramicist Laurie Shaman. The second annual awards ceremony will take place at 8:45pm, Phil Ponce has graciously agreed to return as our guest MC.
In special recognition of the 2007 theme of the 12th annual Chicago Artists Month, "Creative Alliances", ArtWalkRavenswood and its founding organization, Chicago Women's Caucus for Art, have joined together to present a juried show of small works at the Peter Jones Gallery entitled "Making Contact".
Over the years, Ravenswood has sustained its vital manufacturing presence in the corridor while allowing for the development of tech-industries and nonprofit groups that provide job-training and educational programs like The Enterprising Kitchen and the Jane Addams Resource Corporation Training Center. The Ravenswood area is also home to a vibrant neighborhood arts scene represented by Lillstreet Arts Center, ArtWalkRavenswood, the Cornelia Arts Building, and Friends of the Arts.
The annual Tour of Arts & Industry is AWR's premier event; its aim is to inspire residents, businesses, and artists to become invested in the future of their community.
