My work is influenced by Sumi-e painting, the focus is on the process: preparing my palette, tools and vision of the canvas. Each mark of my brush meets the canvas as an extension of my state of mind.
Lately, I am working on a series that is more abstract. I recently finished a painting inspired by a feeling of helplessness at being far from my mother when her sister, Ruth, died. I began each session with a Bikram Yoga routine then painted to music that connects me to her.
My mother taught me yoga, so while I warmed up I felt as though she was in the room with me. The painting flowed from me and when I reached a state of contentment, I stopped, glazed the painting, boxed it up and mailed it to her to place over her bed. Now I am working on a painting for my dear friend, Ann Darda, to express my appreciation-she is always there no matter what the physical distance between us. In addition to these, I have several more in the works, same process and similar in theme.
My husband Earl, gives me constant loving support and always challenges me to be true to my inner artist. I express my love to those that have helped and supported my art spirit the best way that I know how, through painting.
