These paintings are a part of a series that explores the lives of birds. I intuit a great deal from these creatures, observing tenderness, strength and fragility in the most fleeting of moments.

Simple gestures depicting, for example, the turning of the head, the retreat into shelter, or the caring of young have become the subjects of my paintings. I allow the natural properties of the material- transparency, thin washes of color, drips and loose marks- to inform the image.

The fluidity of the medium conveys the fluidity of gesture, of that small moment in time.
